After graduating high school, Dahkotahv thought the last place he would end up was in a college classroom. While enrolled in a program for houseless young people in Seattle, Dahkotahv struggled to ask for help. After gaining support from a caring case manager, he found passion in supporting other adverse young people like himself. Dahkotahv received his first degree as a social worker from Seattle Central College. This helped him pave a road not only out of homelessness but additionally drove him to continue his education in the psychology field to support houseless young people, gender-diverse folx, the LGBTQIA2S+ community, and those who faced systematic oppression. Dahkotahv continued his education at Antioch University Seattle where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Liberal Studies. Dahkotahv felt limited by the support he could offer his community with a bachelor's degree. He felt called to do more, to be more, to become a therapist. Dahkotahv received his M.A. in Counseling Psychology - Emphasis in Masters Family Therapy, Clinical Counseling & Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2021. He is now a registered associate marriage and family therapist (AMFT) in California state #126833.
Dahkotahv helped get the Homeless Youth Act passed in Washington state, along with the extension to foster care to the age of 21. This helps prevent homelessness for those aging out of care. He has sat on the governing board for the State of Washington. He currently serves on the PFLAG board for Santa Barbara County. Dahkotahv has given motivational and advocacy speeches throughout America, including at the Washington State Convention Center and the capitol. He currently guest lectures at colleges, universities, and graduate programs. He also offers trainings on diverse amounts of topics.
